Kimber Backorders

We found out last week that Kimber is currently back ordered roughly 6 to 8 months. If you are looking to buy a particular Kimber, shoot us an email and we'll let you know if we have it in stock. You can also order a specific model from us and you'll have first priority when it arrives.

Ordered a custom crimson carry back in January.   Tuesday will mark 19 weeks and counting.   Ill say one thing... the new Prez. is great for gun sales.

You're right Billy.  We have virtually every model of Kimber 1911 on order and they trickle in slowly.  According to our Kimber sales rep, we are one of Kimber's top 15 accounts in terms of volume and even we have problems getting the pistols timely.  I will say that we did just receive a Custom Crimson Carry and it is beautiful pistol.  I just added the photos to our photo gallery ( Kimber Custom Crimson Carry II Photos).

I ordered an SIS/RL  back in Dec 08 .  I was told 30 - 90 days.   A little off on that estimate.  I did use a Kimber Master Dealer.   About 2.5 months ago I called Kimber to inquire about how much longer I would have to wait. The person at the other end told me  " you will have to ask your dealer, we don't know."   They make make the guns, they should know. It was the dumbest thing I ever heard.   This weapon had better be perfect. I have a glock 35 (duty weapon) and have put thousands of rounds through it, only one malfuction, plus it costs about a  third of what a Kimber does.  The sad thing is that I ordered and received a Rock River ar-15 before a Kimber.

Hi Tom, I totally understand your frustration!  It is my understanding that there are different production schedules for the various models and that not all of them are produced at the same time.  This might account for some of the delay.  In general, the market has gone through the roof and with this panic buying pattern, it is very hard for dealers to keep inventory.  Some manufacturers have stopped taking orders all together while some say to expect a year delay.

Please let us know when you finally receive your Kimber.  I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with it.  I have really heard no complaints and their quality is top notch.

    Thanks for your input!

I was told today that because of the backorder,  Kimber has been sacrificing on the quality of their firearms.  Considering the vendor I spoke with was a Springfield dealer, I assumed he was just trying to push his own inventory.  However it does seem there are more and more whispers nowadays.  Any thoughts??

I haven't heard anything about Kimber sacrificing the quality of their products.  Kimber has built a great reputation for the quality of their handguns and I highly doubt that they would risk their reputation.  I have not heard any complaints from our customers about their purchases.

One customer was in our store today shopping for a new Kimber and he mentioned that his older model had an issue with extraction but I am quite sure Kimber addressed it on their newer models.  Aside from that, pretty much everything I hear is good.

To comment on the backorder, the national sales manager for Sig Sauer was visiting us today and he mentioned that Sig buys their 1911 frames from the same source as Kimber and that there is a massive shortage of 1911 frames.  This is likely contributing to Kimber's 6 to 8 month backorder status.

I ordered a Kimber Crimson Carry II in Feb 2009 and am still waiting. Is my dealer playing games with me? Should I take my business somewhere else?

It is hard to say.... if he is a small dealer that doesn't order any real volume from Kimber, than he might not be able to get one easily. There is a 6 to 8 month back order and in order to get them you have to order in advance and also probably move quite a few. We have somewhere in the range of a couple hundred on back order and we don't see them for a while after they are ordered. Kimber also seems to run production in batches where you'll see some models and then you won't see them for quite some time. Which specific model of Crimson Carry did you order? We have seen all three in recent months in our store and I believe we still have a couple Pro Crimson Carry's and maybe one Ultra Crimson Carry...

I love kimber pistols and have wanted one ever since I shot my first one. I ordered my first finally, a kimber stainless target II back in march of 2009 and I'm still waiting. Every time I ask my dealer when is it coming she keeps saying 6-9 weeks. When I call kimber they have no idea. Man is this frustrating. I wanted to order a desert warrior also, but I'm getting tired of waiting and don't want another long wait. Is there any hope of production being stepped up soon with out sacrifice to quality or is the wait as hopeless as it seems?

      Hi Steve,

I can't speak for Kimber since we are a Master Dealer but I know that their production levels are pretty high. The demand for the product line is so great that they just can't keep up. To some extent, the volume that the dealer does can determine how fast he will see the model you ordered. If he orders a few Kimber 1911's a year, it is entirely likely that he will be waiting for 6 to 8 months in total. That is the current backlog projection. If you decide you don't want to wait any longer, we have both the Desert Warrior and Stainless Target II in stock. They can be shipped / transferred to you from your dealer.
