What the Marines Asked For
Beretta's own account is straightforward. The Marine Corps wanted a mil-spec Picatinny rail so a light or laser could go on the frame. The M9A1 is that pistol. Along with the rail, Beretta added aggressive front and backstrap checkering, a beveled magazine well, and PVD-coated, sand-resistant magazines.
