Vortex Ranger HD 3000 – 10x42 Laser Rangefinding Binocular (LRF-RGR3000)
Carrying binoculars and a separate rangefinder means two things around your neck, two things to fumble for, and two chances to lose an animal while you swap. The Ranger HD 3000 is a true 10x42 binocular with the rangefinder built in — glass up, find the animal, press the button, get the number, without ever taking your eyes off it. 3000 yards to reflective targets, 1500 yards on deer, with HCD angle compensation and a red OLED display. Vortex SKU LRF-RGR3000, UPC 843829139502.
Ranging Performance
| Reflective targets | Up to 3000 yds (2743 m) |
| Trees | Up to 1800 yds (1646 m) |
| Deer | Up to 1500 yds (1372 m) |
| Minimum range | 6 yds (5.5 m) |
| Accuracy | ±0.1 yd under 100 yds; ±1 yd from 100 to 1000 yds; ±1 yd beyond 1000 yds |
| Max angle reading | ±60° |
HCD and LOS Modes
HCD (Horizontal Component Distance) is the factory default and the mode most hunters should live in — it gives you the angle-compensated horizontal distance, which is the number your bullet actually cares about when you're shooting up or down a canyon. LOS (Line of Sight) gives true straight-line distance and also displays the incline angle in degrees.
Vortex's own guidance: use LOS when the slope exceeds 15 degrees or the range exceeds 500 yards and you're feeding a ballistic app or dope card — that's when you want the raw numbers to solve with, not a simplified answer.
Target Modes and Scan
- Normal (default), First, and Last target priority — range through brush to the animal behind it, or stop at the branch in front.
- Scan mode — hold the Measure button for continuous readings as you pan across terrain.
- Selectable yards or meters.
The Display
A red OLED display optimized for low light, with five brightness levels (factory default level 3). OLED matters here: it stays readable against a dark timber background at last light, where an LCD washes out. Auto-shutoff is selectable at 15, 30, or 60 seconds, and a low-battery icon appears at 25% and stays visible.
Glass
- HD Optical System with select glass elements.
- Fully multi-coated — anti-reflective coatings on all air-to-glass surfaces.
- ArmorTek exterior lens coating to resist scratches, oil, and dirt.
- 335 ft field of view at 1000 yards (6.4°).
- 17mm eye relief — generous, and workable with glasses.
- 6-foot close focus.
Built to Be Carried
- Nitrogen purged and O-ring sealed — waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof.
- Rubber armor with a non-slip grip.
- Tripod adaptable via a built-in adapter socket.
- 32.4 oz with battery, 6.7" x 5.1".
- Center focus wheel plus separate diopter (±3.0) and reticle focus rings.
- Interpupillary adjustment approximately 55–75mm.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a binocular or a monocular?
A true binocular — two oculars, center focus, with the rangefinder built in. It replaces both pieces of gear.
What's the difference between HCD and LOS?
HCD gives you the angle-compensated horizontal distance — the number to shoot. LOS gives true line-of-sight distance plus the incline angle. Vortex recommends LOS when the angle is steeper than 15 degrees or the range is past 500 yards and you're solving with a ballistic app.
Does it have a ballistic solver?
No. It provides HCD angle compensation and LOS ranging — not a full ballistic solution with wind and DOPE output.
Does the harness come with it?
Yes — the GlassPak harness is included, along with a neck strap. There's no separate hard case; the harness serves that role.
Can I put it on a tripod?
Yes, there's a built-in tripod adapter socket. The adapter itself is sold separately.
