Vortex Viper PST Gen II 3-15x44 FFP – EBR-7C (MOA) (PST-3156)
The Viper PST Gen II is the scope a lot of serious shooters land on and stop looking. An illuminated EBR-7C in the first focal plane, XR premium lens coatings over the XD optical system, the RZR Zero System built specifically for multi-revolution dialing, and argon purging — in a 28.1-ounce, 30mm package with a 41.2-foot field of view at the low end. Vortex SKU PST-3156, UPC 843829103084.
The RZR Zero System
This is the feature that separates the PST Gen II from cheaper dial-capable scopes. Vortex's description is precise about what it's for: the RZR Zero System "allows fast, sure return to the original zero point when large multi-revolution elevation corrections have been dialed into the riflescope." If you routinely dial past one full turn — which anyone shooting past 800 yards does — getting reliably back to zero is exactly the problem that needs solving.
Illuminated EBR-7C
The EBR-7C is a hash-marked reticle using MOA-based subtension lines and floating wind hold dots for ranging, holdover, and windage corrections. The floating wind dots are the detail worth noticing — they give you clean wind holds without a solid line cluttering the target. It's illuminated, running on a CR2032 included in the box, and it's first focal plane, so the subtensions hold at every magnification.
XR Coatings and Argon
The PST Gen II adds XR premium anti-reflective lens coatings on top of the XD Optical System — the step up that shows itself in low-light contrast and light transmission. It's argon purged and O-ring sealed rather than nitrogen, which Vortex markets as the more capable seal for extreme conditions, and protected by ArmorTek exterior coating.
Wide at the Bottom
At 3x you get 41.2 feet of field of view at 100 yards — nearly double what a 5-25x gives you at its low end. On a positional or PRS stage where you have to find the target fast before you refine, that matters more than top-end magnification.

Take the Viper for better glass, illumination, seven fewer ounces, and nearly double the low-end field of view — the better all-around tactical and PRS choice if 15x and 40 MOA of windage are enough. Take the Venom for maximum magnification, a bigger objective, and considerably more dial travel per dollar on a dedicated known-distance rig.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the RZR Zero System do?
It gives a fast, sure return to your original zero after you've dialed large multi-revolution elevation corrections — the situation where losing track of your turns actually happens.
Is the reticle illuminated?
Yes, with a CR2032 included.
Why only 40 MOA of windage?
It's a 30mm tube, and windage travel is where 30mm scopes give ground to 34mm. For most shooting it's ample; if you need more, look at a 34mm option.
What rings do I need?
30mm.
